'3 Idiots' Poster Leaked Online!
As a Diwali gift from Bollywood, the first promotional poster of Rajkumar Hirani's '3 Idiots' has finally been leaked online.
For those who are Bollywood-challenged, '3 Idiots' is the most anticipated flick of 2009 and stars Aamir Khan, Madhavan, and Sharman Joshi as the three central characters, and the film is based on Chetan Bhagat's bestselling book '5 Point Someone'. Kareena Kapoor also plays a supporting role in the film along with Mona Singh and Boman Irani. And according to insiders, Kajol makes a cameo in the film as well.
'3 Idiots' follows the story of Hari Kumar, Ryan Oberoi, and Alok Gupta, who fail to cope with the grading system of the IITs. Since the film is only loosely based on '5 'point Someone', director Rajkumar Hirani has taken creative liberties in his script. Details have been kept tightly under wraps, but the first trailer is due this week.
'3 Idiots' releases worldwide on Christmas day. Check back this space for more updates.

Bollywood gives you a Diwali Bonanza
As many as three big budget Bollywood flicks arrive this Diwali - the comedy 'All the Best', the dramedy 'Mai aur Mrs Khanna' and the action extravaganza 'Blue'.
'All the best' is another offering from director Rohit Shetty, who earlier made the hilarious Golmaal and the astoundingly disappointing 'Golmaal Returns'. Produced by Ajay Devgan, it stars Bipasha Basu, Sanjay Dutt, Fardeen Khan, Mugdha Godse and Ajay himself. "For the first time, I am quite confident about a film that it will work for sure. A few of the `Golmaal` fans felt that `Golmaal Returns` was good but not as good as `Golmaal`. So keeping that also in mind, when they see `All The Best`, it will be like both `Golmaal Returns` and Golmaal`," Shetty said.
According to Ajay Devgan, "All The Best is a laugh riot. It falls in the same genre as `Golmaal` but is a completely different script made on a larger scale and it`s funnier than `Golmaal`...The film will work...I`m sure people will like it too."
'Mai aur Ms Khanna' pairs up Kareena KApoor and Salman Khan for the first time. Sallu is back on screens, fresh frpm the success of his Pokiri remake 'Wanted'. The film also stars Sohail Khan, Yash Tonk and features Preity Zinta in an item number. "The film doesn`t have an extramarital relationship or cheating angle. It just tells the story from the point of view of an outsider. Sohail is someone who looks at Mrs. Khanna and sees the kind of issues that she is facing," Director Prem Soni said.
"In fact, whether it is Sohail or even Salman for that matter, both of them have an element of `main` in them. They see Mrs. Khanna in different ways and this is what forms the crux of the film," he added.
Meanwhile 'Blue', one of the most expensive Bollywood films of all time stars Akshay Kumar, Lara Dutta, Zayed Khan and Sanjay Dutt. Packed with explosive action and menthol cool cinematography by Pete Zuccarini of ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ and ‘Deep Blue Sea’, 'Blue' is destined to be a winner.
Which film would you watch this Diwali?
Shahrukh Khan finally crosses over to Hollywood
Even as Shah Rukh readies to star in Danny Boyle’s ‘Bombay Velvet’ to be directed by Anurag Kashyap, legendary Hollywood screenplay writer Paul Schrader has hinted at casting SRK in his next film with Mumbai’s infamous underworld as the backdrop.
According to reports, Schrader, writer of classics like ‘Taxi Driver’ and ‘American Gigolo’, has apparently tied up with Mushtaq Shiekh andAnubhav Sinha to make a USD10 million-budgeted cops and mafia film titled ‘Xtrme City’.
The film has been announced by David Weisman’s ‘Vanishing Cinema LLC’ in unison with Shiekh and Sinha.
It is believed that SRK has almost given a nod for the same, thanks to his proximity with Mushtaq Shiekh, who did the screenplays of Khan’s films like ‘Om Shanti Om’, ‘Billu’ and is also working on SRK’s under-production sci-fi thriller ‘Ra1’.
To be targeted at both domestic and international markets, ‘Xtrme City’ will be an action thriller set in the “brutal, impenetrable, criminal orbit of Mumbai”, say its makers.
“Spending time in India and working with a Bollywood talent like Shiekh has inspired and excited me to make a film accessible and meaningful to both Indian and American cultures,” said Schrader in a statement issued to the media. (ANI)
New Michael Jackson song released
Michael Jackson's first single to be released since his death received its premiere today, almost four months after the star died from an overdose of anaesthetic.
The track, This Is It, was delivered to radio stations amid tight security and began streaming at Michaeljackson.com overnight.
This Is It was to be the title of Jackson's 50-concert comeback in London, which would have kicked off in the summer had he not died on 25 June at his Hollywood home.
The song begins with orchestral strings as Jackson sings, "This is it, here I stand, I'm the light of the world, I feel grand".
After the Jesus comparison, Jackson spends the next three minutes talking about love.
"I never heard a single word about you/Falling in love wasn't my plan/I never thought that I would be your lover/Come on, please, just understand," runs the chorus. Jackson's brothers provide backing vocals.
But the lyrics are unlikely to provide clues as to the singer's romantic life in the months before he died: they were written almost 20 years ago, according to the Mirror, which reports that the song was originally recorded for Jackson's 1991 album, Dangerous, but never made the final cut.
This Is It will be the only original track on a double CD to be released on 27 October. It will be played during the closing sequence of the upcoming film, Michael Jackson's This Is It, which documents rehearsals for the ill-fated London shows.
The Los Angeles coroner disclosed in August that Propofol and the sedative Lorazepam were the "primary drugs responsible for Mr Jackson's death".
The drugs were administered by Jackson's physician, Dr Conrad Murray, and the verdict has been considered likely to increase the chances of criminal charges being brought against his doctors. (ANI)
Movie Review: Acid Factory
Acid Factory is a generic blur of metallic blue and fireball orange set to the contrapuntal sounds of blaring techno and eardrum-puncturing noise.
Yes, Acid Factory is silly. Unfortunately, it's not silly fun unless you enjoy really bad movies. It is more video game than movie, though video games have more interesting characters. Also, it is hard to imagine why and how director Suparn Verma could make such a bad remake of the Columbian B-movie 'Unknown', and yet have the gall to proclaim that he had to complete 55 drafts over the course of a year to come up with the final script for Acid Factory.
Coming to the story, a group of men (Fardeen Khan Aftab Shivdasani, Dino Morea, Manoj Bajpayee, Danny Denzongpa, Dia Mirza) find themselves kidnapped and locked up in an Acid Factory. Thanks to some gas (yes, gas!) they’ve been stricken with amnesia and have no idea who they are, where they are, or what has happened to them. As the men compare the tiny shards of memory they can pull from their minds, the audience is treated with exploding cars, bare midriffs, plunging necklines, horrendous attempts at acting and cringe inducing plot twists.
Sanjay Gupta's trademark 'hey look at me I'm incredibly cool' camera is present, and so are the cigarettes, shades, slo-mo sequences and the overbearing, guffaw-inducing attitudes. And I can't think of anything more unintentionally hilarious than Dino Morea's death in the film.
Irrfan Khan is the only saving grace of Acid Factory, he is charismatic as Kaiser (Soze?), the uber cool villain hitting on his buxom moll, locking lips with Dia Mirza and making a fool out of policeman Gulshan Grover over and over again. Fardeen, Aftab and Dino are painfully imprudent in trying to hold onto their characters. Dominatrix Dia Mirza gets to strut about like Lara Croft and is just about passable. And like in 'Luck', Danny Dezongpa is criminally wasted, along with poor Manoj Bajpayee.
Acid Factory is a deluge of bullets and chop-socky madness devoid of style or purpose. Watch it if you like insipid storytelling.
Ajab Ranbir ki Ghazab Kahani
Ranbir Kapoor is set to swallow the competition in 2009 as he has not one, not two but THREE releases lined up for this year - apart from Wake Up Sid and Rocket Singh, Ranbir will also star in Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani.
Ajab Prem ki Ghazab Kahani is directed by Bollywood veteran Rajkumar Santoshi. The film will be a departure for director Santoshi who is famous for making landmark movies like Ghayal, Damini, Chin Gate and Pukar. Although he is not exactly a stranger to comedy - he has directed the funniest Bollywood film of all time, Andaz Apna Apna.
Ajab Prem ki Ghazab kahani also stars Katrina Kaif in the lead role as well as Salman Khan in a cameo. "`Ajab Prem?` is a film about an unrequited love. I didn`t want Ranbir to play the loser in love as a tragic hero. Charlie Chaplin and Ranbir`s grandfather Raj Kapoor excelled in playing tragic losers in love. I don`t think the youngsters identify with it," Santoshi told reporters.
When asked about Ranbir's similar character in 'Saawariya', Santoshi replies, "Yes it was a similar role. But not in this zany and upbeat way. Though Ranbir`s character loses out in love, he doesn`t lose heart for even a second. He remains blindly devoted and besotted right till the end while Katrina just keeps taking him for granted."
Ajab Prem ki Ghazab Kahani hits theatres on November 6th, just a month before Ranbir's other film, Rocket Singh: Salesman of the year. Pritam has provided the music for APKGK. In 2010 Ranbir and Katrina will also appear in a dramatic film 'Rajniti' directed by Prakash Jha
Aamir-Kareena - the most unmatched couple?
Come December, Aamir Khan and Kareena Kapoor will be seen on screen together for the first time in Rajkumar Hirani's '3 Idiots', a film loosely based on Chetan Bhagat's bestseller 'Five Point Someone'.
But will Aamir and Kareena, who have an age gap of fifteen years be credible in a movie about college students? Not much is known about '3 Idiots' as details have been kept tightly under wraps, Kareena may fit in the role of a stundent but can Aamir pull it off? Of course Aamir looks way below his 44 years. There is also the possibility of flashback storytelling in '3 Idiots' and that Aamir could play the older version of one of the students. Whatever the case, we're in for a remarkably entertaining film.
However, age differences mean squat in Bollywood, take for instance 'Mai aur Mrs Khanna' which releases this Friday which stars 43-year-old Salman khan and 29-year-old Kareena Kapoor as a married couple. Aamir also starred alongside the 23-year-old Asin in last year's 'Ghajini'.
Coming back to '3 Idiots', Aamir and Kareena were recently spotted singing in simulated rains for as long as three days. "This is the final song which is being shot on the lead pair. Aamir and Bebo both have to be under water and as they are practically sitting in wet clothes for the whole day, they are taking adequate measures not to fall sick. This is the last shooting stint for the film, after which the film will be termed complete and move towards post production." a source said.
Apart from Aamir and Kareena, '3 Idiots' also stars Sharman Joshi and Madhavan; the film hits theaters worldwide on December 25th.
Movie Review: Do Knot Disturb
Do Knot Disturb is a miserable experience filled with crude slapstick, cruder sentiment and retrograde jokes.
Its time Bollywood producers woke up - David Dhavan-Govinda comedies do knot, repeat KNOT work anymore. The duo brought us Aankhen, Coolie No 1, Saajan Chale Sasural and such but it was fun while it lasted. Do Knot disturb has the same dated low brow approach that reveals just how little the filmmakers think of their audience.
Plagiarized to core from the French comedy 'The Valet', Do Knot Disturb stars Govinda, a hen-pecked husband of Sushmita Sen who is having a boisterous affair with Lara Dutta (can't blame him, Sush looks revoltingly flabby). Sush hires a private dick (Ranvir Shorey) who brings her some seemingly incriminating photo of Lara Dutta. To hide the truth from his wifey, Govinda hires a waiter (Ritesh Deshmukh, who also appears in the photo) to pose as Lara's boyfriend. Sush plays along and lays it on thick, what follows is the usual pernicious mix of sitcom and snickering sex jokes along with a few lame slapstick gags.
The performances, apart from Rajpal Yadav's are cringe inducing. Govinda's turn in Do Knot Disturb isn't as energetic as it is desperate. Sushmita Sen as The Incredible Bulk is painful to even look at. Ritesh Dehmukh and Ranvir Shorey have no scope here to exercise their natural comedic ability. As for Lara Dutta, fire your agent!
Shiney Ahuja gets bail.
Pulp Fiction screenwriter Roger Avary was sentenced to imprisonment for a year for DUI, and even Hollywood legend Roman Polanski faces jail term for raping a minor three decades ago, but Shiney Ahuja has been given a ticket home.
Three months after he was arrested, Ahjua who was accused of raping his maid has been granted bail. The Bollywood actor, whose career is done for has been bailed out on a surety of Rs 50,000 by the Bombay High Court. He will be required to live in New Delhi during the trial and come to Mumbai every time there is a hearing," said his lawyer Shirish Gupte.
Ahuja, however, has to stay in Delhi and is forbidden from tampering with any evidence. Shiney had been is custody since June 14th when he was accused of raping his domestic help at his Andheri home. A 109-page chargesheet has been filed by the city police against him and he was denied bail twice before. According to the victim's testimony, Ahuja had called the victim to his room at his residence saying he needed water. He then locked the room and allegedly raped her.
Ahuja's wife stated that she was extremely relieved at the court's decision. "This decision by the court has been overwhelming. I am so happy that our daughter has got her father back, Shiney's parents have got their son back and I have got my husband back," Anupam told reporters after the court’s ruling.
"I am thankful to all those who prayed for Shiney's well being and all those who gave good arguments in the court. The case was presented very well," she added.
Box Office Bomb Alert: Milenge Milenge
It seems that the long gestating 'Milenge Milenge' will release after all - the project had been stalled midway due to the much publicized break up of leads Kareena and Shahid Kapoor.
The curiously titled 'Milenge Milegne' is produced by Boney Kapoor and directed by Satish Kaushik. Reportedly Kareena and Shahid refused to share screen space after they ended their relationship. 'Milenge' was on floors even before 'Jab we met' came out as filmmakers wanted to cash in on their off screen romance.
However, the two separated and refused to complete filming 'Milenge'. Kareena went on to star in Tashan, Golmaal Returns and Kambakhht Ishq while Shahid found relative success in Kismat Konnection and stardom in Kaminey. Producer Boney Kapoor approached the duo and somehow convinced them to complete 'Milenge'. His 'Wanted' proved to be a box office success and 'Milenge' might just follow suit.
"I am a happy man today because of two reasons - First, ‘Wanted’ is doing excellent business all over the world. And second, people love the promos of ‘Milenge Milenge’. I am getting an excellent reaction from all over. Those who have seen the promos are already raving about it.” Kapoor said.
The film is slated to release in December, along with Kareena's other blockbuster '3 Idiots'. "‘Milenge Milenge’ is all set for a December release. We have cleared all the problems related to the film. We have submitted the film to the producers association who are now planning the release date. Since many films have already been lined up for release we are not sure about the date. But there is a ray of hope for my film now. With ‘Wanted’ having done superbly at the Box Office, I hope the best for Milenge Milenge."
But will audiences prefer another Shahid-Kareena flick, now that Saifeena is the next best thing in Bollywood? 'Milenge' could as well suffer the same fate as 'Hum Tumhare Hain Sanam' which also took years to complete. The plot is not quite revolutionary as the film borrows heavily from Hollywood's 'Serendipity'.
Dream couple - Shahrukh Khan and Katrina kaif
UK import Katrina Kaif is certainly popular with the masses but did you know that she is in talks to star in a movie opposite Shahrukh Khan?
Reportedly, Karan Johar expressed a wish to make a movie with SRK and Kat in the lead roles, and if all goes well his follow up to 'My name is Khan' would be this very project. According to KJo, Shah Rukh Khan and Katrina Kaif are 'the most romantic actors in Bollywood'.
Moreover, during a recent interview on a news channel KJo let slip that Shahrukh and Katrina are also working on another Yash Raj film, and that pre-production of that film is already under way. The 'secret Yash Raj project' is expected to release in early 2011. Noting else is known about this film but details will surely be leaked in the days to come.
Now it appears that Salman Khan is being very professional about Katrina working in two films with his non-buddy Shahrukh Khan. A recent interview revealed that Sallu is not the least but perturbed that Kat will share screen space with SRK. Good on Katrina, nothing beats raising the popularity bar like appearing on any form of media with SRK.
Kareena replaces Mallika in 'Pyar ke side effects 2'

Kareena Kapoor has got her hands full and is having the last laugh too, for the actress who was slammed by eminent journalist Pritish Nandy for looking ‘like a joke’ in ‘Kambakkht Ishq’ has been approached by Pritish Nandy Communications (PNC) to star in the sequel of ‘Pyaar Ke Side Effects’ opposite Akshay.

According to reports, Kareena Kapoor and Pritish Nandy have apparently had a cease-fire of sorts after exchanging jabbing comments, with Pritish calling Bebo ‘a joke’ and Kareena reverting with ‘He (Pritish) should concentrate on his work rather than blogging’.

Sources suggest that PNC, that was previously considering Sonam Kapoor for the role would rather have Kareena playing the same for she suits the role more than anything and same is perhaps the reason for Pritish eating his words and approaching Bebo. “Kareena has liked the role in PKSE 2 and has agreed to star in it”, suggests a source.

When enquired about the same, Nandy said, “I am out of town. My daughter Rangita might have approached Kareena. She is a good actress and I hadn’t made any personal comment against her. Those remarks were directed only at her character in ‘Kambakkht Ishq’.” (ANI)

Danny Boyle ropes in SRK and Aamir for new film!

Dollar Lovers

Talk about an unbelievable casting coup - two of the biggest Bollywood honchos in existence would in all probability appear together on screen for Danny Boyle's new film!

In case you're Hollywood-challenged, Danny Boyle is the director of Slumdog Millionaire, which took home a busload of Oscars, including one for AR Rahaman. And it gets better - Boyle will act as producer for the new film, titled 'Bombay Velvet' which will be directed by maverick filmmaker Anurag Kashyap!

Boyle has already confirmed that Aamir is signed up for the film, he is now in talks with Shahrukh Khan for a lead role in Bombay Velvet. If all goes well, the film, with SRK and Aamir begins shooting in February 2010 and will hit screens in Q1 2011. Bombay Velvet is quite like Slumdog Millioanire, but is a period piece, set in the year 1940. The film is reportedly based on real incidents, but Boyle has taken creative liberties in the script to make it more interesting and entertaining.

Bombay Velvet has been written by Kashyap from a treatment by John Hodge who earlier wrote Boyle's 'Shallow Grave', 'Trainspotting' and 'A life less ordinary'. Bombay Velvet may well be an adaptation of the novel Maximum City by Suketu Mehta; back in March Boyle was attached to make film an adaptation of the book and had approached Aamir Khan for the lead role. Maximum City explores the lead character's return to Mumbai after a gap of two decades; he experiences the politics of today's Mumbai, meeting murderous gangsters as well as Bal Thackeray along the way. The book gives socio-political analysis of the history and people of Mumbai.

However, the book is set in modern times yet Bombay Velvet is set in the 1940s. Boyle wanted to cast SRK as the host of Kaun Banega Crorepati in Slumdog Millioanire. SRK had turned down the role, an act which the star now regrets. Supposedly, Bombay Velvet will be split into three acts, and a different actor will play the lead in each act. Shahrukh will feature in the first, a new actor in the second while Aamir will snap up the third. The film marks the second collboration between Anurag Kashyap and Danny Boyle, the latter had given some creative inputs for Dev D.

Shahrukh Khan and Hrithik Roshan in Dhoom 3
Get Ready Once Again DHOOM-3

The Dhoom franchise just keeps getting bigger - the third installment of the Dhoom series, titled Dhoom 3 is already in pre production and is all set to swallow the box office in 2011.

We all know that bikes, cars, chases, bikinis and songs will make a return in Dhoom 3, so what's new about the film? Two things - Shahrukh Khan in the lead role and Aditya Chopra in the director's chair! That's right, the Bollywood badshah makes a return to negative roles after a gap of almost a decade. Although SRK will be as much as a villain as John Abraham and Hrithik Roshan were in the previous installments.

The original cast, including Hrithik Roshan as Aryan, Aishwarya Rai as Sunehri, Bipasha Basu as the Bose twins, and of course, Abhishek Bachchan as ACP Jai Dixit will return for Dhoom 3. Uday Chopra, whose lifeline seems to be only the Dhoom series will return in his role as the bumbling Ali Akbar. According to sources, the scriptwriters are trying to make way for John Abraham's Kabir Khan and Esha Deol's Sheena for cameos in Dhoom 3. With a cast like that, the film makers are more or less assured of a major hit.

Apart from Shahrukh's inclusion, the big difference is surely Adiya Chopra's shift to the director's chair. The Yash Raj honcho is known for directing epic, sweeping love stories like Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge, Mohabbatein, and the recent romantic comedy Rab ne bana di jodi. Whether the director can dole up a solid action entertainer remains to be seen, especially since Dhoom and its sequel are known for over-the-top paisa vasool action scenes and stunts. While the original Dhoom lifted some of it's action sequences from Hollywood flicks like The Matrix Reloaded, Dhoom 2 had 100% original desi masala.

According to insiders, Yash Raj Films is trying to do an Ocean's Trilogy for Dhoom 3, by roping in a gargantuar cast and having an impossible heist as the plot. Granted, the first Dhoom had shades of Ocean's 11, but hey, its Bollywood, popcorn fun is all we want. And if Dhoom 3 delivers, its going to set some box office records when it releases in late 2011.

Shahrukh's return to a villainous role in an action film is a welcome change after a string of mega successful romantic flicks. We don't count his 'Don' as a negative role, and we would definitely like to see him return to shades of 'Baazigar, 'Anjaam' and especially 'Darr'.
